Rossi, a poliziotto of the Italian police, normally looks after traffic offences. Suddenly he’s caught up in a mysterious new case: A man has been bludgeoned to death, and the culprit was seen fleeing into the synagogue in the old Jewish quarter where somehow, he disappeared. A second victim barely escapes with his life; poisonous rumours abound about the strange occurrences. If truth be told, Rossi is quite superstitious himself, yet he has deep misgivings about the supernatural explanations being bandied about.
