THE LOMBARD’S GOLD

Cologne in 1423: Aleydis de Bruinker has only been married to Lombard moneylender Nicolai Golatti for a short time when he dies in mysterious circumstances. He is found hanged; did he take his own life? Aleydis refuses to believe that explanation. Sure enough, she finds marks on his body that suggest he was murdered. And there are plenty of suspects, as the moneylender had many enemies. When the young widow attempts to investigate, she soon finds herself in mortal danger. And it appears as though her only ally is also part of the conspiracy to murder her husband…
