Dr. Paul Mayer (1889–1970) war von 1919 bis zu seiner durch die Nazis erzwungenen Emigration 1936 Lektor im Rowohlt Verlag. Die Exiljahre verbrachte er überwiegend in Mexiko, wo er im Verlag El Libro Libre tätig war. Ab 1955 lebte er bis zu seinem Tod in Zürich. Als Autor veröffentlichte er Gedichte, Novellen und literarische Aufsätze.
