Juha Korhonen and his colleague Lucas "Lux" Adisa from Hamburg's State Criminal Police Office are called in for a kidnapping case. The victim is the daughter of a star architect. The case has striking parallels to a crime from fifteen years ago, when a 14-year-old was kidnapped and buried in a box in the forest. He was found dead. The perpetrator committed suicide.
What initially seems like a kidnapping soon turns out to be a hoax, but during the investigation, Lux discovers inconsistencies in the fifteen-year-old case. Why did the previous investigator and Juha's mentor continue to investigate the case even after it was closed, right before his sudden death? Juha and Lux follow his leads and reinterview the witnesses. Did they settle too quickly on the wrong suspect back then, allowing the real culprit to go free? Piece by piece, a tragedy emerges where victims became perpetrators and vice versa – its shocking impact extending into the present day.
