I’LL BRING THE WHEELCHAIR ROUND, GRANDMA! – How I Went From a Grandchild to a Carer

  • A young man takes responsibility: caring for a family member is a very topical subject which affects many people.
  • Written with heart and humour.

“Have you ever thought about caring for someone who’s dying? Me neither.”

Cabaret artist Martin Frank grows up on a farm in Lower Bavaria, and his grandmother is the most important person in his life. When he is just 19, she suffers a stroke and needs constant care. After discussing it with his family, Martin decides that he will look after his Grandma. He cares for her for five years, until her death, and in this book he writes about that time – which was not just sad but also bizarrely funny, full of love, and very important to him. A tragicomic book about family, pulling together, and coping with death – full of Bavarian charm, warmth and optimism.
