BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE – What Will Happen If Politics Doesn't Keep Up With Science

  • Politicians must finally listen to science.
  • A highly urgent wake-up call and a strong plea for a
policy that faces reality by one of the few high-ranking scientists in top German politics.
  • "Lauterbach has just something that has always helped people to get back on their feet after crises: He's right." Die Zeit

Whether it’s the climate catastrophe, a pandemic, or nuclear danger: we know what has to be done. Why don’t we take action?

We live in a time of unprecedented challenges. For the first time since the beginning of civilisation, human survival on this planet is at risk. With every passing day, accelerating climate change makes it less probable that we will achieve the goal of keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees. Scientists warn about tipping points, which are then breached nonetheless. Disappearing species, global water scarcity, health risks triggered by the food industry, pandemics that get worse – all the facts are on the table. So why do politicians fail to take action based on scientific findings? Politics must become more receptive to research and its results, keep up with science – otherwise, as Karl Lauterbach shows in this book, we will lose control over our future and fail. No one is better equipped than Karl Lauterbach, himself a politician and scientist, to explain why the interaction between politics and science must be revolutionised, what differing thought processes and attitudes towards action rule these two systems, and whether it is at all possible to bring them together.
