VIOLENCE OF THE HEART – Why We Shouldn't Abandon Juvenile Offenders

  • Time, tenderness, affection: How we save juvenile offenders.

Two eleven-year-olds who rob an 88-year-old woman. A twelve-year-old selling Tilidine and MDMA. Fourteen-year-old girls arranging fights. Headlines like these are becoming more frequent.
For Jens Mollenhauer, a police officer and leader of a youth protection unit, they are part of everyday life. What is happening with these young people? Where is empathy, respect, and compassion? What went wrong?

Mollenhauer delves into all layers of our society, visiting migrant families and speaking with parents of affluent but neglected "rich kids" to show that violence is not the answer. Violence, which almost always originates from wounded emotions and neglect: "violence of the heart" indeed.
