The destiny of a woman in Frankfurt in the 1950s, set in the book and literary trade in post-war Germany

Frankfurt shortly after World War II: Christa breaks off her German studies, disappointed because she is not taken seriously as a woman at the university. Initially, due to lack of alternatives, she helps out in her uncle’s bookshop. But soon selling books becomes her passion – and the book shop is a place to meet like-minded people, where friendship and even love blossom. As the times get better and people begin to spend their money on things they want, the bookshop, of all places, does not gain much from this economic miracle. Christa has to use all her cleverness and energy against the odds – and the first Frankfurt Book Fair is right around the corner.
