TRANSFER OF POWER – How a New Generation of Politicians Is Changing the Country

  • A gripping look behind the scenes, into the centre of power: Anna Sauerbrey has been observing political goings-on in Berlin at close hand for years.
  • A must-read for anyone who wants to know how
Germany is going to function in the future and who is going to be calling the shots.

Individualists, charismatics, political entrepreneurs: a new generation is changing Germany.

An era has come to an end with the end of Angela Merkel’s tenure – but who succeeds her? A new generation has entered the stage, and with it a new type of politician: charismatic political entrepreneurs, individualists who are permanently online and wear trainers. At first glance casual, free of ties, seemingly without ideology, strategically experienced, with friends beyond party lines and open to unusual alliances – and yet (or perhaps because of this) so authentic that the voters trust them. But what is this new style of politics, and what does it mean for our democracy?

Anna Sauerbrey looks at this new generation of politicians, which is already setting the direction of travel: Annalena Baerbock, Robert Habeck, Christian Lindner, Paul Ziemiak, Jens Spahn, Dorothee Bär, Kevin Kühnert and others. She explains what drives these individuals, what connects them and what distinguishes them, which alliances are forged in the backroom, and where the red lines are. Her book shows how the new political elite ticks: a gripping insight into the centre of the Berlin republic – and a perceptive diagnosis that allows us to look into the future of our country.
