THE SECRET APPLE ORCHARD: Worlds Apart (Vol. I)

  • Amidst the 1892 cholera epidemic on the Prussia-Hamburg border, a young woman risks everything for her family's orchard and a forbidden love.
  • First volume of an epic historical dilogy set against a rich North German backdrop.
  • 70,000 copies sold of her novels Der Duft von Zimt and Hyazinthenschwestern altogether.

Finkenwerder, 1892: Since the tragic death of her mother, young Kea Loop finds solace only in her mother’s old apple orchard. It is there that she dreams of breeding the perfect apple. But when a promising seedling finally sprouts, she faces a major obstacle: it is growing just across the provincial border that divides their island of Finkenwerder into Hamburg and Prussia - and worse, it lies on the land of the Rentfelds, her family's bitter rivals.

When Kea decides to sneak across anyway, she is caught red-handed by Kristen, the Rentfelds’ farmhand. What should have been the sudden end to her apple project marks the beginning of a grand, forbidden love story. Meanwhile, her father has plans of his own to settle the ancient blood feud, betrothing Kea to Tamme Rentfeld. At the very same time, a devastating cholera epidemic breaks out in Hamburg, and the border between Hamburg and Prussia is strictly sealed. But Kea cannot forget Kristen. To see him again, she must risk everything, cross dangerous social and political divides, and tear her old world to pieces.
