In the early dawn of a January day, a stand-up paddler collides with a corpse in the Alster Canal. Juha and Lux, who have recently joined the homicide division of the Hamburg's State Criminal Police Office after solving their first high-profile case, take over the investigation – but the killing continues. On the victim's phone, they watch in real-time as his business partner, bound and trapped in a sauna, fights for his life. Every attempt at rescue comes too late. The clues lead them to a group of successful young people who have known each other since their student days. Juha suspects that one of them is the murderer, but the remaining members remain silent.
Determined, the investigators dig deeper into the case, which soon takes a surprising personal turn for Lux, testing their deep friendship. Piece by piece, a story is revealed, one that began years earlier and has been relentlessly consuming the present.
