Imagine a world where everyone has superpowers. Everyone except you.
This is the story of Normal, who is named so because, in a world populated by superheroes, he is the only one without any superpowers, not even ridiculous ones. And there are plenty of ridiculous heroes in Mega City. For example, Normal's office colleague, who can turn invisible whenever there is work to be done. Both are employed at the "Emergency Call Center", an office for the placement of superheroes, which is as old-fashioned as its name. The fight against the overpowering competitor, the ultra-modern placement agency Back App, seems almost unwinnable. But then, all of Mega City is threatened by an almost invincible armada of supervillains. And maybe it takes a few losers with heart to prevent the triumph of evil? And perhaps Normal can finally confess his love to the girl he has loved since childhood, even without any superpowers?
Mark Uwe Kling creates a hilariously funny satire with his concentrated comedic superpower, poking fun at the objectively ridiculous genre of superhero comics. With at least three jokes and puns per panel! But while reading, it becomes clear that the mockery is carried by love and that Normal is both a satire of a genre and an affectionate homage.
