The idea that there are only two genders is patently wrong. The gender binary is inadequate, and there are alternatives. Diversity is a fact: human beings are more than just either/or. They are trans, intersex, gender nonconforming, non-binary, agender, queer. But as visibility has increased, anti-queer voices have grown more strident. There is emancipatory potential for all human beings, however, in the overcoming of rigid categories. Lydia Meyer envisions a world in which the old boundaries have become obsolete, drawing on their own personal experience of struggling with the gender binary, and of finding their own way forward.

Lydia Meyer setzt sich als Autor*in, Redakteur*in und Konzepter*in in unterschiedlichen Formaten und Medien mit Sex, Gender, gesellschaftlichen Normen und deren Verwobensein auseinander. Vorher studierte Lydia Meyer Kulturwissenschaften und Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftskommunikation in Leipzig und Berlin, arbeitete u.a. für Zeit Online und die Kooperative Berlin und entwickelte dort die YouTube-Serie «Auf Klo» sowie das queerfeministische Format «Softie» in Kooperation mit dem Missy Magazine für funk. 2020 erschien «Sex und so. Ein Aufklärungsbuch für alle» im Ullstein Verlag.
