HOPE JOANNA

  • Second crime novel by master of humor Horst Evers.
  • Always surprising, intensely thrilling, and extremely funny.
  • At the center is the strong-willed and charismatic young Berlin Commissioner Hope Joanna Marlow.

Born on November 9th, two years after the fall of the Wall. Named after the Eddy Grant song where her parents met in the German-German chamber choir. Her mother from West Berlin, her father from Leipzig, the daughter is the best of both worlds: Hope Joanna Marlow.

She became a police officer for a chance at the Olympics as a Taekwondo fighter. The Olympics are now the past; the Berlin Police is the present. A cell phone video, showing Hope Joanna subduing four violent robbers in a Späti (convenience store), turns her into a reluctant hero.

But before she can push back against her fame, a mysterious series of murders throws the city into turmoil. A far-right sect appears convinced that Adolf Hitler's legendary escape briefcase, missing since the end of the war, is more than just a legend. Among other things, it is rumored to contain the recipe for a fabled elixir.

The young Commissioner Hope Joanna Marlow quickly finds herself in a deadly parallel world. Its furious and absolute madness is surpassed only by reality itself.
