The paths of money are inscrutable. Yet, it governs our lives, so Elfriede Jelinek persistently pursues its trail.
From the Bible to René Benko, from sheer greed to cunningly disguised corruption, from class struggle to bloody and costly wars – this is the eternal story, which Jelinek, however, tells entirely from the perspective of animals. With ever-growing incomprehension, but increasing sarcasm, cows, pigs, doves, the Lamb of God observe us humans as we consistently work towards our self-inflicted misery – and ultimately hurtle, unchecked and cheerfully, toward the apocalypse of capitalism.
For one thing is clear in Unter Tieren: the world is out of joint, and the financial market certainly won't fix it.
