THE GIRL WITH PROKURA

  • A classic of 1930s literature, recently reissued, highly acclaimed in its time, and adapted into a movie in 1934.
  • The fate of a smart and ambitious woman – captivating and astute.

Berlin, 1932. Thea Iken is a procurist at the Brüggemann Sohn Bank. She is fiercely loyal, works hard, and enjoys the trust of the bank director, to whom she is also friendly – she is somewhat of a surrogate mother to his young son. The other employees see her as an annoyance at best, or a mystery, as she reveals little about herself. The emerging banking crisis unsettles Thea and her colleagues, along with the rest of the world. Livelihoods are threatened or destroyed, and the world appears uncertain and menacing. When a murder occurs in the bank, Thea herself becomes a suspect. She is arrested. It is clear that she is hiding something – but is it truly her fault?
