THE WOMAN AND THE FJORD

  • A geologist rediscovers life in Norway’s stunning Lofoten Islands.
  • The vivid setting captures the raw beauty of the fjords.

A lonely fjord, a life attuned to the rhythm of the tides.

A small wooden house with a view of the fjord, mountains behind it, and a dock with a little boat in front. This is all Gro Kristjánsdóttir needs for her fresh start on Norway’s Lofoten Islands. After making a career in the oil industry, renowned for her exceptional ability to read nature and discover oil deposits, everything changes with the unexpected death of her husband Nicklas. The harsh, unforgiving nature of the Arctic Circle becomes a backdrop for Gro as she learns to love her new life by the fjord, embracing the icy winters and bright summer nights, the countless shades of blue, and the golden light that makes the mountains shine. As she wanders the area or watches an eagle while fishing, she gradually finds her way back to life.
One stormy evening, a distress call over the radio shatters her solitude. Fisherman Jens has wrecked on the rocks. As Gro nurses him back to health, she is surprised to find that this stranger rekindles her sense of connection. Later, she discovers two former colleagues in the area scouting for oil fields. Suddenly, the fjord, which has become Gro’s home, is in danger.
