Lichterfelde, 1913: The century is still young, Modernism is waiting at the gates of Berlin. But it is still difficult for women to pursue their dreams in the German Empire. Henny has only one dream: she wants to study medicine – to out the unfulfilled longing of her mother, whom she never met. The path to becoming a doctor is hard for a woman in these times, but Henny is a fighter. When she falls in love with the young junior doctor Paul, her happiness seems complete. But then war breaks out and Paul is conscripted. Henny’s dreams burst; suddenly she is left with nothing – and has to fight to survive.
