The journalist Julie von Kessel has worked for over ten years at ZDF’s Morgenmagazin early morning TV show. She was previously part of the ZDF studio team based in New York, and her reporting included the events of 9/11. She grew up in Helsinki, Vienna, Zagreb, Bonn and Washington, DC. She lives with her family in Berlin.

Cousins Ophelia and Franka grow up together near the Rhine and are best friends throughout their childhood. They are connected by a dark secret that Franka has revealed to Ophelia – and no one else.
At finishing school, the intellectual, ambitious and ethereal Ophelia is offered the opportunity to study the violin in the USA. Fun-loving Franka, on the other hand, drifts from one internship and relationship to the next, often needing Ophelia’s support. When she finds a job at a gallery in New York, she’s happy to finally be near her childhood friend again.
In New York, however, things take a dramatic turn. Ophelia has a serious accident. At the same time a group of terrorists flies hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center. Between the rubble of the twin towers appear irrefutable signs that Ophelia has betrayed Franka’s confidence…
