The inhabitants of the sleepy Alsatian village of Eguisheim awake one night to the screams of a woman running through the streets. A ghost, she claims, is haunting the local manor house in the form of La Dame Blanche, a widely feared portent of evil. The arguments against her story proffered by Chef de Police Céleste Kreydenweiss fall on deaf ears. Then a dead body is discovered near the manor, adding more fuel to the fire of gossip enveloping this superstitious local community. It’s another puzzling case for Céleste and her Brigadier Luc Bato whose investigation leads them to Strasburg’s red-light district.
