Janne Mommsen was born on the Baltic Sea coast. Before becoming a writer he was a nurse, a shipyard worker and a pianist on a cruise ship. Now he mostly writes novels, scripts and plays. He lived in northern Frisia and often returns to take in the invigorating coastal atmosphere. Fittingly, his wife’s family has lived on Föhr for hundreds of years.
THE ISLAND OF BOOKS
Sandra Malien lives in a small beach house. One day, she stumbles into a book club meeting at the island’s little bookshop frequented by local bibliophiles and other islanders who don’t want to spend every evening nodding off in front of the TV.
The attractive course leader, Björn, catches Sandra’s eye. But no one on the island knows that she can’t read or write. How is she supposed to read the story to be discussed at the next book club meeting?
When she bumps into Björn on the beach, she seizes her chance and tells him that she’s forgotten her glasses. Björn reads her the story on a picnic between the dunes – and Sandra falls head-over-heels in love with him. Can their story have a romantic and happy ending despite the secrets that separate them?
